Computer Science is a Core Stream which deals with the hardware and software part of Computer. Computer Science is involved in developing new technology (hardware and software) from scratch on the other hand IT is involved in using the existing technology and developing it further. IT is in contact with customers in front end while Computer Science is purely concerned with the backend development like scientists.
Computer Science involves the use of Complex Maths and Algorithms finding new ways to interpret and transfer data, while IT professional uses critical thinking to work with clients and making models to construct technology plans for Clients and their business needs.

Engineering branched should be chosen on the basis of Interest. Let us discuss some branches to get an idea.
Following are some Core brances and Sub branches :
1) Electrical Engineering is a Core branch and study of Electricity, Electronics and Electromagnetism. In India maximum opening for Government Jobs is in Electrical Engineering every year compared to the rest of the Engineering branches.
Electronic Engineering is a sub-stream of Electrical Engineering which involves the study of electronic circuits-devices, processors, etc. It is the study of both software and hardware part of an electronic device Computer Science is also a sub-stream of Electrical Engineering which deals with the hardware and software part of Computer. But IT is a sub stream of Computer Science.
2) Mechanical Engineering is again a core branch which deals with designing, building and application of machines. Production, Manufacture, Operation Enginering are all sub streams of Mechanical Engineering.
3) Civil Engineering is also a Core Stream which deals with designing, building and maintaining of strcutures like Roads, Buildings, etc
Other Engineering branches are : Oil and Gas, Chemical Engineering, etc
